man, that absolutely brings the suck. I will raise a glass to Carroll and the 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500KR Mustang tonight -- one of the baddest automobiles ever, by one of the most visionary auto designers, not to mention drivers. shit.

Indeed that is rotten news. Heck of a guy.

He and Barrett-Jackson did some amazing charity work ...... I foresee a huge Shelby tribute charity auction from Barrett-Jackson in the near future..... And probably a record setting bid.

Heard about it yesterday as well. Very sad. My boss told me he was the longest living heart transplant recipient!

If I haven't been feeling my age lately anyway, this news just drives it home.

I remember the debut of the original AC Cobra.

Carroll was a man of many talents and drove for success till the end. It is a sad day.

He will be missed , remember when the cobra came out in 63 selling new for less than 7 grand, before the cobras he was involved with allard for a while putting big v8s in little british cars .

Dying at 89 of natural causes after an extremely successful life is not tragic, it's just the end of a great man. We all got to go sometime. It's better than wasting away in a nursing home like my mother.

I agree 100%, Fred. I'm selfishly sad that he passed and I won't get to enjoy the cool products of his inventive mind any more, but by any measure he had a long, wonderful and adventurous life -- he should be celebrated, not mourned!

uh... 62.

And it came with the "upgrade" small block Ford. The 260 (4.3L). Upgraded from the original 221 (3.6L) and the short lived 255 (4.2L) version.

In 63, both the 260 and the then brand new 289 were offered.

But, you know, $7k was a ton of money back then.

I bought a house in 79 for $28k. Today, that will get you a mediuam quality car...

I would gladly have dropped the $4500 sticker on the 68 GT500KR... 428CJ motors make me smile.
