Treasurer position & monies.

Hey all! I'd like some input on a situation that's come up.
Johnny (lobsterdmb) is currently our chapter treasurer but will be away on deployment soon, and away for some time. Jordan has, to his credit, continued to monitor and manage the club funds through the transition. However, he has a conflict with his work in finance that disallows him from handling or overseeing monies other than his personal finances.
This puts us in a bit of a bind. Jordan cannot manage the account, and in his absence John could not be expected to either.
Realistically a special election needs to be called and a sufficient replacement found. Carol has expressed interest before, but neither of us is comfortable having both of us as president and treasurer under one roof, for what should be obvious reasons...
Any and all ideas on how and who to get this fixed?
The club bylaws dont specify that I have the right to appoint a temporary replacement until election can be held, but they dont say I can't either. We need a consensus on at least a temporary resolution for Jordan's sake if nothing else. Obviously this is a very important position, more so than any other in my mind.
Any and all feedback would be welcome.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Receiving a check from me
  • Establishing a small business bank account - must be done in connection with National, so you'll have to work with David Bricker to do this
  • Manage the in and outflows of the account
  • Create a PayPal account and link it to the new bank account
  • For NACFest, link the PayPal account to the EZRegister account so people can pay on-line
  • Handle all of the cash from raffles, merchandise sales, and walk-in registrations
  • Handle reimbursement payments for event items like food and shirts
  • Make regular posts to the BOD forum updating everyone on the funds and account balance

The position involves a lot of responsibility and organization, but most of all TRUST. I can't think of anyone this club should trust more than Carol. And as long as other NAC or National BOD members have at lest view access to the accounts, I personally don't see a conflict.

My deepest apologies if I spoke and acted out of turn, but I am in a bind and left with no other options as i understand things. In my view, this position is the most important one in the hierarchy.

While I wouldn't trust Ben to drive my Jeep, I would absolutely trust him to do a great job as Treasurer. I'm in favor.
