Wanna shoot something

I want to get into recreational shooting and perhaps hunting. Looking for information on getting licensed. I've never applied for a Lic so wondering what steps I need to take prior to purchasing a weapon. Any help is appreciated.

I don't know if this is what you meant but you don't need a license to buy. They run a background check if its your first gun you will have a waiting period the rest can be called in. For a concealed carry license WA is a "Shall issue" state so as long as you don't have a felony you should be good to go.

So I can pretty much just walk into a store and walk out pack'n? How long would I have to wait for the back ground? Does it matter that I am not a "Resident" of WA?

If you don't have a CWP and want to buy a pistol there is a waiting period. To buy a rifle or shotgun you fill out paper work and walk out with it. At least thats the way it worked when I bought my last gun, years ago.

Seriously, read and learn all of that on your own and try not to take advice on a Jeep Forum.

And if you wanna meet up with some local folks, you can come see us at Kent 4 Wheel Drive in Kent. We have a gun counter in our store now, geared toward serious self-defense and practical use...as opposed to showy, macho internet commando trash.

Truthfully anyone that says some shit like that shouldn't be buying a gun. I own quite a few guns. They require safety and respect, they are not toys or something you buy to be cool.

May be different in WA but in OR when I bought my first pistol they just called into OSP to check background, 10 minutes later I was out the door with my first pistol. I don't believe OR has a waiting period. But as I said WA may be different.

I asked that because in CA it is much more complicated, dont turn it into something its not. Im just trying to find out how to legally purchase and own a firearm.

In that case... Start by going to your local Cabelas, Sporting goods store, or Gun seller. Talk to them about Safety courses and classes. They are probably the best for local info. That is what they do 8 hours a day so Im guessing they have a handle on the laws etc.

Yeah I looked into it while I was in CA you pretty much have to be Jesus to get a CWP. In WA it's too easy they need to have a class requirement atleast, there were alot of tards in there when I got mine.

For hunting there is an age requirement of either 30 or 35 if you haven't gone through hunter/gun safety. I did mine when I was 14 so that's why I don't know off hand. what was said earlier about Cabela's is right but I even think Fred Meyer has a Hunting Reg booklet.

Probably shouldn't tell you that when I bought my little .380 I got to take it home same day. Guy at the shop said they just have to wait for your background check to clear and it depends on the sheriff department running it and how long it takes them to process it and get back. At any rate I didn't complain just picked up my goods and hit the road.

rifle and shotgun is same day for the most part. you still fill out paperwork and they call it in. if there is no problems you get it same day. problem's mean you dont get it that day while they do a deeper background check or the deny you.

pistol you have to wait the 7 days maximum. if the shop were you got it dosent get a call back with a yay or nay they give it to you. they call in before the 7 days are up sometimes too to say yes he can have it. happen to a friend of mine. and if you have a permit you are almost guaranteed to get it same day. cause of the checks you go though to get it.
